The public are being encouraged to join in and descend on nine of the Island’s beaches this Sunday, 17 June, to take part in the Big Beach Clean.

The initiative is part of the 2018 Year of Our Island celebrations, which this month focusses on the Island’s seas and shores.

2018 Year of Our Island encourages people to do more, and the beach clean is a great opportunity for people to do something for the Island’s community and its environment.

The event is being organised in partnership with Beach Buddies with the aim of cleaning 10 beaches in one day.

An experienced member of the Beach Buddies team will be on hand at each beach to provide equipment, advice and a safety briefing.

Beach cleans are great family activity that encourage people to get out in the fresh air, get active and improve the appearance and cleanliness of the Island’s coastline, reducing the scourge of ocean plastic and rubbish.

The public can choose from nine beaches across the Island:

  • Ballaugh
  • Douglas
  • Langness
  • Laxey
  • Niarbyl
  • Peel
  • Port Erin
  • Port Soderick
  • Ramsey

A private beach clean will also take place on the Calf of Man.

Participants should arrive at their chosen beach for 10:30am, dressing appropriately for the weather with sensible footwear.

The Big Beach Clean is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.

The public is asked to please park sensibly as there will be limited space at some locations.
